Chinese provincial food stamps — liangpiao — functioned as a rationing instrument under the planned economy, running parallel to currency but redeemable only for grain allocations within their issuing province. Jilin's stamps could not be used outside its borders, a deliberate restriction that tied citizens to their registered household location under the hukou system. The 1975 date places this squarely in the late Cultural Revolution period, when centralized grain distribution was still the dominant mechanism for feeding the urban workforce.
Shi jin is a unit of weight in the Chinese market system, equivalent to half a kilogram. The denomination here is therefore a ration entitlement, not a monetary value.
