The lion is shown passant or guardant with stylized plumage rendered in low relief. A beaded inner border frames the design, and the surrounding circular Latin legend reads SANCTVS MARCVS VENE, invoking the Republic's patron saint. The overall execution reflects the small-module hammered coinage typical of the Venetian Zecca at the close of the sixteenth century. |
