Additional information

Gian Galeazzo Visconti acquired Milan through one of the more cold-blooded coups of the Trecento — luring his own uncle Bernabò into a meeting in 1385 under the pretense of negotiation, then having him arrested on the road and imprisoned until his death. The sesino series begins shortly after he consolidated sole control, and the dates roughly bracket the period between his purchase of the ducal title from Wenceslaus IV in 1395 and his death from plague during the siege of Florence in 1402.

The MEC XII references split across two entries (642 and 654), reflecting documented die variation within the type.
