Obverse description Heraldic eagle displayed in the field, shown with wings spread and head turned to the left, rendered in a crude but bold hammered style typical of small Italian feudal coinage of the sixteenth century. The eagle, an emblem of the Malaspina family arms, occupies the full flan with minimal peripheral legend. The coin's irregular planchet and granular border are consistent with contemporary provincial minting practices.
