The Samoan fantail series occupies an odd niche in Pacific numismatics — low-denomination aluminium pieces issued decades after Samoa effectively abandoned small coinage in everyday commerce. By 2020, the sene had long ceased to function as practical currency, making these strikes primarily collector-directed from the outset.
