Additional information

Samoa's 2020 aluminium coinage series was issued as part of a broader Pacific regional effort to refresh circulating low-denomination coinage with endemic wildlife. The Australasian Swamphen — known locally as the *manu seasea* — is widespread across Samoa's wetlands and is not a species under conservation pressure, making it an unusual choice over more symbolically loaded fauna.

KM#510 is among the lightest circulating coins issued by any Pacific sovereign authority.
