Obverse description Central field bears a sixteen-petaled imperial chrysanthemum crest (kikumon) in low relief positioned in the upper portion of the flan, with the denomination expressed in two kanji characters (一錢, meaning '1 Sen') below, all rendered in the understated, matte white surface characteristic of fired porcelain. The design is stark and unadorned, reflecting the emergency wartime production context in which non-metallic materials were substituted for conventional coinage alloys.
