| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a view of the Malaysian Parliament building complex, with the tall rectangular tower block rising prominently to the left and the lower domed and colonnaded parliamentary chamber extending to the right. Above the building to the upper right, a crescent and a fourteen-pointed star (Bintang Persekutuan) are shown in the field. The engraver's initials 'GC' appear in small letters at the lower right of the design. The composition is framed by a beaded border. |

| Additional information |
Malaysia's first decimal coinage series launched at independence from British colonial currency arrangements, with the 1 Sen the smallest denomination in the new system administered by Bank Negara from its founding in 1959. The bronze composition was quietly abandoned after 1981 in favor of a steel-core magnetic issue, making the earlier non-magnetic pieces distinguishable by a simple magnet test — the most reliable field method for separating the two types given their otherwise identical appearance.
