Brunei's switch to a silver 1 Sen in the early 1990s was tied to collector demand rather than circulation necessity — these were issued as part of proof sets, never intended to pass through hands in daily commerce. The Currency and Monetary Board produced them in limited quantities for the numismatic market, a practice Brunei maintained consistently through this period as oil revenues made symbolic coinage economics entirely painless.
