Reverse description The reverse displays a facing bull's head, the heraldic symbol of Mecklenburg, rendered in low relief at the center of the field. Above and around the bull's head appears the mint legend identifying this as a new coin of Grevesmühlen, interspersed with cross stops and the date numerals 38 (for 1538). The bull's head is depicted with forward-facing visage and rudimentary facial features consistent with the die-cutting style of the period. The irregular flan and variable strike result in partial legend visibility at the coin's periphery, typical of hammered issues of this denomination.
