Reverse description Central device consisting of a bold, stepped or crenellated cross of distinctive architectural form, its four arms terminating in angular, interlocking stepped ends reminiscent of a fortification plan, with the letter G positioned at the center and the initials G V repeated in the four quarters between the arms of the cross. The circular peripheral legend in Latin, QVI NON COLIGIT MECVM DISPERGIT, is a scriptural motto (Luke 11:23) meaning 'He who does not gather with me scatters,' accompanied by the repeated initials G V G V. A fine beaded border frames the legend. The engraving style is consistent with Renaissance Italian hammered coinage of the Gonzaga workshop.
