Obverse description Central field occupied by a crowned, manifold quartered heraldic shield bearing the composite arms of the Gonzaga dynasty, struck in hammered style with characteristic irregular flan. The crown surmounting the shield is rendered in high relief, and the surrounding legend is incuse in Latin characters distributed around the coin's periphery. The overall design is typical of late Renaissance Italian hammered gold coinage, with bold if somewhat crude die work.
