| Obverse description | Crowned quartered shield of arms occupying the central field, bearing the combined heraldic devices of the Marquessate of Montferrat with an escutcheon of the Casale arms as an inescutcheon at center. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown rendered in relief. The circular legend surrounding the shield reads IO GIORGIVS MAR MONT FER C, identifying the issuer as John George Palaeologus, Marquis of Montferrat. The lettering is in Roman capitals within a plain beaded border. |
