Obverse description Draped bust of Pope Urban VIII facing right, wearing the papal camauro and richly ornamented vestments with elaborate lace collar, rendered in high relief with finely detailed facial features and beard. The effigy is executed in the naturalistic Baroque style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Roman coinage. The circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, divided by pellets as word separators, reading VRBAN · VIII · PONT · M with the pontifical year A. VI continuing in the lower field.
