Obverse description The obverse displays the papal arms of Sixtus V within an ornate cartouche-style shield, featuring a lion rampant in the lower portion of the escutcheon and a bust of a bearded figure above — a characteristic heraldic device of the Peretti family arms. The shield is surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, the universal symbols of pontifical authority, rendered in fine hammered relief. A denticulated border frames the coin's edge, and the circumferential Latin legend reads SIXTVS V PONT MAX, identifying the issuing pontiff and his supreme ecclesiastical title.
