Obverse description Central field features the papal arms of Pope Paul III — a shield charged with six fleurs-de-lis from the Farnese family — surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The heraldic composition is rendered in high relief in the hammered gold style characteristic of Renaissance papal coinage. A circular legend in Latin surrounds the device along the coin's periphery, with ornamental rosette stops separating the words.
