Obverse description Crowned heraldic shield displaying quarterly arms with a central escutcheon of Casale, the whole surmounted by a curved rayed sun in the upper field. The shield is rendered in the late medieval Italian style typical of hammered gold coinage, with bold relief. A circular legend in Latin surrounds the central device, separated from the shield by the inner border of the flan.
