Reverse description A floriated cross at center, its arms terminating in stylized fleurs, dividing the field into four quadrants. In the lower half, the arms of the papal legate Monsignor Giovanni Battista Castagna and the municipal arms of Bologna are displayed on either side of the vertical arm. The circular legend BONONIA DOCET runs along the beaded border, referencing Bologna's celebrated role as a seat of learning.
