Obverse description Central shield displaying the heraldic arms of Cardinal Giovanni Battista Spinola, featuring a checquered base and a cross, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys — symbols of apostolic authority — rendered in high relief. The shield is flanked by elaborate acanthus-scrolled supports and rests upon foliate ornaments at the base. The circumferential legend in Latin records the Sede Vacante occasion and the date in Roman numerals, reading SEDE · VACANTE · MDCC, distributed around the periphery. The entire design is enclosed within a finely milled border.
