Obverse description The papal coat of arms of Clement XI (Giovanni Francesco Albani) rendered in high relief, featuring an ornate baroque shield charged with a six-pointed star above a stylized anchor or papal emblem, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys. The shield is framed by elaborate acanthus-leaf scrollwork and flanked by baroque decorative elements. The circular legend reading CLEM. XI. P.M. A. XV is distributed around the field, denoting Clement XI, Pontifex Maximus, in his fifteenth regnal year. The milled edge border frames the design with a fine toothed collar.
