Reverse description Central field features a floriated cross with trefoil-terminated arms, elegantly rendered in the Renaissance style characteristic of north Italian hammered gold coinage of the early sixteenth century. The cross is boldly struck and occupies the majority of the reverse field. Surrounding the cross is a circular Latin legend divided by the cross arms, reading MON TIS FER ATI, an abbreviated reference to Montisferrati (Montferrat), identifying the issuing territory. The legend is distributed in segments between the quadrants formed by the cross.
