Reverse description Central field displays a pointed heraldic shield bearing crossed sword and key — the arms of the Bishopric of Dorpat — with a sword pointing left and a key directed right and downward. The shield is surmounted by a mitre or crown and framed within a decorative wreath border. A circular Latin legend in Gothic letterforms surrounds the design, reading MON · NOVA · TAR · 41, the last two digits representing the year 1541. The flan is irregular and shows typical characteristics of mid-16th century hammered billon coinage from Livonia.
