Obverse description Facing bust of Bishop Johannes VI, wearing a mitre or ecclesiastical headgear, depicted in a simplified medieval style within the coin's central field. The effigy is rendered in low relief, characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the period. A circular legend in Latin uncial characters surrounds the bust, reading IOHANNES · DEI · EPS, abbreviating the bishop's name and title. The legend is separated from the central device by a beaded or plain inner border.
