Obverse description Central field occupied by a quartered heraldic shield displaying the arms of the Bishopric of Paderborn impaled with those of the House of Wittelsbach (Bavaria), surmounted by a bishop's mitre and flanked by decorative mantling. The shield quarters show the Paderborn crossed keys and the Bavarian lozengy pattern. A Latin circular legend surrounds the device, reading PADERB. LAN(D)(T). GEL(D)(T)., separated from the inner field by a beaded inner border. The overall style is characteristic of Kipper-period emergency hammered coinage, with irregular flan and somewhat crude but legible die work.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering PADERB. LAN(D)(T). GEL(D)(T).
