Additional information

Moldavia struck schillings under Prince Eustratie Dabija beginning in 1661, a reign defined by tributary obligations to the Ottoman Porte and chronic fiscal strain. These small brass pieces circulated alongside Polish and Lithuanian schillings of similar module, filling a gap left by the near-total absence of reliable local coinage. The Type III designation distinguishes a die revision within Dabija's brief output — he died in 1665, leaving a minting program that lasted just four years.
