| Obverse description | Central device depicts the arms of Hamburg: a three-towered brick castle with an arched gateway set in the lower portion, rendered in high relief with fine detail on the masonry. Above the battlements appear three ornamental charges — a six-pointed star to the left, a Maltese cross at center, and a smaller six-pointed star to the right. The composition fills the field with no encircling legend, presenting the civic arms in a bold, unadorned style typical of mid-19th century German state coinage. |
