Additional information

Christian Louis I ruled Mecklenburg-Schwerin during a period of severe financial strain following the Thirty Years' War, which had left the duchy's economy and population devastated for decades afterward. Small silver schillings of this type circulated heavily in a region still rebuilding its trade infrastructure, and surviving examples in any meaningful grade are genuinely scarce.

KM#97 spans only three years of production, bracketed by the duke's reign from 1658 until his death in 1692 — the narrow issue window likely reflecting a recoinage episode rather than continuous minting.
