Reverse description The reverse bears a five-line inscription in bold raised lettering occupying the full field, reading: the numeral I flanked by trefoil ornaments on the uppermost line, followed by SCHILLING, HAMBVRGER, COVRANT., and the date on the lowest line, each separated by the natural spacing of the die. The use of the archaic 'V' in place of 'U' in both HAMBVRGER and COVRANT reflects the classical epigraphic convention of the period. The composition is strictly typographic with no pictorial device, framed only by the plain edge of the coin.
