Additional information

John Frederick of Pomerania-Stettin ruled jointly with his brother Bogislaw XIII under the terms of the 1569 partition of Pomerania, a division that created persistent jurisdictional friction and resulted in a fragmented coinage policy across the duchy. The Scherf — a low-denomination copper piece — was struck largely for local market transactions at a time when small change was chronically undersupplied across the German states.

At 0.26 g, these coins circulated hard and survivors in any discernible condition are genuinely scarce.
