| Obverse description | Left-facing armored bust of Emperor Maximilian I, laureate and crowned, wearing a gorget and the chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece draped across the chest. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the Renaissance style, with fine detail in the armor and regalia. The date 1516 appears in the exergue below the bust. The encircling legend in Latin runs along the periphery, identifying Maximilian as Roman Emperor, ever Augustus, and Archduke of Austria. |
