Obverse description Four large Chinese characters arranged in two columns within a central beaded circle, reading top to bottom and right to left: 餉 (ration), 一 (one), 兩 (liang/tael), 銀 (silver). The characters are boldly engraved in a plain, unadorned field. The coin's broad, slightly concave flan is bordered by a continuous outer beaded rim.
