Obverse description The obverse presents the characteristic Koban layout in elongated oval format. Two fan-shaped Kiri (paulownia) crests appear at the upper and lower registers of the field, flanking a central vertical arrangement of two rectangular cartouches. The upper cartouche bears the denomination inscription in grass-script (sōsho) calligraphy, while the lower cartouche displays the mint official's signature in regular script (kaisho). The overall composition is executed in the traditional Japanese hammered gold-plate style, with the design elements impressed into the refined gold surface.
