Reverse description The Portuguese royal coat of arms displayed within a large oval cartouche, surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The shield features the traditional Portuguese armillary sphere and castle quartering, set against a radiate background within the oval border. Flanking the central cartouche are two decorative olive or laurel branches in the field. The overall design is characteristic of Portuguese colonial coinage of the early nineteenth century, with no additional legend present.
