Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing draped bust of King João V occupying the central field, with long flowing hair falling over the shoulders in the baroque style. The legend IOANNES V R.P. is arranged around the bust, reading along the coin's circumference. The date is inscribed below the bust in the lower field. The portrait is rendered in a robust, high-relief style typical of Portuguese colonial coinage struck at the Goa mint.
