Siva Singha ruled Assam as the 37th Ahom king and is notable partly for the extraordinary political influence wielded by his chief queen, Phuleswari, who effectively governed through him and took the title Rajeshwari. The coins struck under his reign reflect the Ahom practice of dating issues to regnal years using the Ahom Saka calendar, making precise attribution to Gregorian years approximate rather than exact.
The Ahom kingdom had minted silver rupees in rough conformity with Mughal weight standards since the late 17th century — a pragmatic concession to regional trade, not submission to Mughal authority, which Assam famously resisted at the Battle of Saraighat in 1671.
