Obverse description Struck in the name of the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II (AH 1173–1221 / 1761–1806 AD) during the reign of Nawab Sa'adat Ali Khan of Awadh (1798–1814). The obverse bears the royal Persian inscription in flowing Nasta'liq calligraphy within the central field, characteristic of late Mughal-style rupees issued from the Lucknow mint.
