| Obverse description | The obverse bears a four-line Persian legend in fluid Nasta'liq calligraphic script, arranged within a plain linear frame that divides the field horizontally. The central inscription reads 'Sikka Mubarak Shah Alam Bahadur Badshah Ghazi', proclaiming the auspicious coinage of Emperor Shah Alam Bahadur, King and Champion of the Faith. The lettering is boldly struck in raised relief against a flat field, characteristic of the hammered Mughal rupee tradition. The script is read from bottom upward in the conventional Mughal coin arrangement, with each line of text filling the width of the die. |
