Obverse description The obverse bears a four-line Persian legend in fluid Nasta'liq calligraphic script, arranged within a plain linear frame that divides the field horizontally. The central inscription reads 'Sikka Mubarak Shah Alam Bahadur Badshah Ghazi', proclaiming the auspicious coinage of Emperor Shah Alam Bahadur, King and Champion of the Faith. The lettering is boldly struck in raised relief against a flat field, characteristic of the hammered Mughal rupee tradition. The script is read from bottom upward in the conventional Mughal coin arrangement, with each line of text filling the width of the die.

Reverse description The reverse displays a four-line Persian Nasta'liq legend arranged within a plain linear frame, recording the regnal year and mint of issue. The inscription reads 'Manus Maimanat Sana 5 Julus Zarb Kashmir', meaning 'Intimate Companion of Auspiciousness, Year 5 of Accession, struck at Kashmir'. The regnal year numeral '5' appears in Arabic-Indic script within the legend, precisely identifying this piece to the fifth regal year of Shah Alam Bahadur. The bold, deeply incised calligraphy fills the circular flan in the standard Mughal hammered style, with the mint name Kashmir appearing prominently in the lower register.
