Obverse description Hammered silver flan bearing bold Arabic script arranged in multiple horizontal registers across the field, characteristic of the Mughal-derived coinage tradition employed in Kotah State. The legends, rendered in a somewhat stylised Nasta'liq hand, record the name and titles of the Mughal emperor Muhammad Bahadur Shah, the nominal suzerain in whose name the rupee was struck. Decorative pellets and floral ornaments serve as word separators and fill the margins, and a crescent device is visible at the upper border of the field. The overall design is a recognised variety of catalogue type C#32.
