| Obverse description | The obverse displays a bold calligraphic inscription in Arabic script arranged in two registers separated by a horizontal line, executed in the ornate Nasta'liq style characteristic of Afghan Durrani coinage. The upper register bears the royal titles and name of Shah Mahmud, rendered in deeply struck relief with floral pellet ornaments embellishing the field. The lower register contains additional regnal or religious formulae, with decorative dot clusters filling the interstices of the lettering. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven at the edges, consistent with hand-struck hammered production. The overall design reflects the epigraphic tradition inherited from Mughal coinage adapted to the Durrani Sultanate. |
