Obverse description Central field bears the Abu'l Fateh couplet in fluid Nasta'liq script, arranged in two or three registers: 'Dar aafaq zad sikkah bar mihr wa mah / Abu Al-Fateh Ghazi Jahandar Shah', meaning 'He struck coins across the horizons upon the sun and moon / Abu al-Fateh Ghazi Jahandar Shah'. The inscription occupies the full flan in the characteristic Mughal hammered style, with a floral ornament visible in the left field. The lettering is bold and deeply struck within a plain border.
