Obverse description The obverse bears a multi-line Persian legend in flowing Nasta'liq calligraphy filling the entire field, reading in honor of George V, Emperor of India and King of England. The inscription is arranged in three lines across the coin: 'In the auspicious reign of George V / King of England the Fifth / Emperor of Hindustan.' The irregular flan and hand-struck character of the hammered technique are evident in the slightly uneven relief and planchet edges. There is no portrait or effigy; the design is purely epigraphic in the Mughal tradition.
