Obverse description Left-facing draped and crowned bust of King George V, wearing the Imperial State Crown and robes of state with elaborate decorative chain and insignia visible at the truncation. The effigy, engraved by E.B. MacKennal, is rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail including a short beard. The circular legend reads GEORGE V KING EMPEROR, disposed around the bust and separated from the beaded border by a narrow field. This is the Type II portrait, distinguished by a modified crown design compared to the earlier issue.
