Reverse description Octagonal hammered silver flan with the field entirely covered by multiple horizontal registers of Assamese script, recording the regnal year and additional royal epithets of Gaurinath Singha. The inscription fills the coin from edge to edge in a bold, angular style characteristic of Ahom royal coinage of the late 18th century. A dotted border is faintly discernible along the periphery of the octagonal planchet.

Additional information

Gaurinath Singha ruled Ahom during one of its most turbulent decades, fighting off a Moamoria rebellion that had already toppled two kings before him. The silver rupees struck in his name were produced at a moment when the kingdom's administrative machinery was barely functional — the Moamoria rebels had sacked Rangpur, and much of the Brahmaputra valley was in open revolt for years into his reign.

Ahom coinage of this period followed a distinctly regional tradition with no connection to Mughal metrology despite the similar weight standard.
