| Obverse description | Central steel field features a stylized elephant in profile facing left, rendered in a decorative folk-art style with cross-hatched caparison and curled trunk. The elephant occupies the dark steel centre of the bimetallic flan, framed by a raised inner border. The copper outer ring bears a curved legend naming the five French Indian comptoirs: PONDICHÉRY, KARIKAL, YANAON, MAHÉ, and CHANDERNAGOR along the upper arc. The inscription INDE FRANÇAISE and the date 2021 appear along the lower arc of the outer ring. |
