Obverse description The Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem of India, is depicted in the center of the field, showing three lions atop an abacus bearing the Dharma Chakra flanked by a horse and bull. The national motto in Devanagari script, 'सत्यमेव जयते' (Satyameva Jayate, meaning 'Truth Alone Triumphs'), appears directly below the emblem. The country name arcs along the upper periphery in both Devanagari ('भारत') to the left and Latin script ('INDIA') to the right. The denomination '1 RUPEE' is inscribed in the lower field, with the numeral '1' centrally placed and 'रुपया' in Devanagari to the left and 'RUPEE' in Latin script to the right.
