| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the armorial device of the Honourable East India Company, divided into quarters: the upper two quarters display a fleur-de-lis and a cinquefoil rosette respectively, while the lower half of the shield features three sailing vessels rendered in profile. The shield is flanked on either side by foliate mantling or supporters, with a decorative beaded and rope-twist border encircling the entire design. The execution is characteristic of hammered coinage, with some weakness of strike visible across the field. |
