1 Rupee Balwantnagar [Jhansi] mint

Balwantnagar was the fortified mint town established by the Peshwa-aligned chiefs controlling the Bundelkhand region, operating under the broader Maratha administrative network that expanded aggressively into central India through the late eighteenth century. The Jhansi state itself was still consolidating at this point — the mint predates the more famous Rani Lakshmibai by two generations. KM#78.4 distinguishes this by its specific mint mark, separating Balwantnagar output from the numerous contemporary Maratha rupees struck at nearby competing mints in the same regal year.
