Obverse description Hammered silver flan bearing two horizontal bands of Arabic calligraphy in the Naskh script, dividing the irregular round field into three registers. The upper register contains the opening hemistich of the Mughal imperial couplet, the central register carries the name and title of the emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir, and the lower register completes the verse. The legends are boldly struck in raised relief against a plain field, consistent with Mughal hammered coinage of the late seventeenth century.
