Obverse description Central field bears a multi-line Persian legend arranged in three registers separated by horizontal lines, reading 'Sikka Mubarak Badshah Ghazi Aziz-ul-din Muhammad Alamgir' (The auspicious coin of the Victorious Emperor Alamgir, chosen of the faith of Muhammad). The legend is rendered in a bold Naskh-style Arabic script typical of Mughal coinage. Decorative pellet ornaments are visible within the field, flanking the central inscription. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and slightly off-centre strike associated with hammered Mughal rupees issued under British presidency authority.
