| Obverse description | Hammered silver flan bearing a central cartouche in two registers, enclosed by a raised linear border, with bold Nasta'liq calligraphy filling the field. The central band carries the Mughal imperial titles of Alamgir II, the reigning emperor in whose name (INO) the coin was struck, rendered in deeply struck raised lettering. The upper and lower segments of the field contain additional elements of the royal legend, with decorative dot clusters and lozenge ornaments interspersed throughout, characteristic of Farrukhabad mint style. The overall design follows the standard Mughal rupee format, with the die slightly off-centre as typical of hand-struck issues of this period. |
